From the front lines

Leading up to the WORLD broadcast in late April, environmental justice and urban water groups held preview screenings of Come Hell or High Water.

In Long Beach, California, Angelo Logan of East Yard Communities for Environmental Justice organized a screening at the Art Theatre because he saw parallels between the Turkey Creek story and the struggles faced by communities in the path of the 710 Corridor, once known as the Los Angeles River Freeway. KCET has been documenting public concerns about the 710 and posted this article about the screening: “From Mississippi to California, Communities Interlink with ‘Come Hell or High Water‘”

In Mobile, Alabama, at the regional Justice Leadership Summit, a screening of the film and keynote address by Derrick Evans was accompanied by a workshop led by Bridge the Gulf, Crescent City Media Group and Working Films on using film and media for social change.

These two events happened on the same day and Gulf Coast leaders in Mobile recorded a video message that was screened after the film in Long Beach that night, saying “We’re with you!”
