Monday was a great day in the long life of the Turkey Creek documentary, which is now titled COME HELL OR HIGH WATER: The Battle for Turkey Creek. Composer and musician Derrick Hodge recorded a live session for the score, with guitarist Marvin Sewell, percussionist Herlin Riley and harmonica player Dale Spalding. At the end of the incredible day at New Orleans’ Piety Street Studios, we were joined by two members of the Hot 8 Brass Band, tuba player and band leader Bennie Pete and trumpet player Alvarez “B.I.G. AL” Huntley, who were accompanied by Herlin Riley on one of the band’s original songs (see a video clip here). The music by the Hot 8 is for a scene in the film that includes the band performing on the road with the KatrinaRitaVille Express. Stay tuned!
